Make it yours

Do you like my work, but don’t see exactly what you want? Maybe you have a specific location or subject in mind. Let’s make your idea come to life!

I work with my clients to make decisions about size, composition, color, and other elements of the painting. While you’ll have a lot of creative control around what you want, I do stick to a few basic guidelines when accepting new commissions. See the FAQs below for more info.

FAQs

Will you paint anything?

I paint landscapes, still life, pet portraits, and whole-figure portraits. I do not do close-up portraits of human faces.

Can you work from a photo?

I prefer to take my own photos of the subject, but if that’s not possible I will work with you to find a suitable photo. We’ll discuss your idea, and I will explain to you how to take a good reference photo. If you have a photo you took that you like, I may or may not deem it an acceptable reference photo. Finally, please note that while I can adjust photos, I do not combine photos or add elements that are not already present.

How much does it cost?

For commissions, my smallest size, 6x8, starts at $350. Not all subjects can be painted successfully at this size (pet portraits, for instance) and need to start larger. Prices vary depending on size and complexity of the subject. I ask for half the amount up front (non-refundable), and half when the painting is complete.

Do you frame your pieces?

I make a style of floating frame that works well with my pieces. Small frames (12x16 and under) cost $150, and anything larger costs $200. You can choose different stain colors and finishes. Look on this page as well as my Fine Art page for examples of my frames.

How long does it take?

That depends on a lot of factors, from size and complexity to framing and my personal schedule, but generally it takes four to six weeks to complete a commission.

Can you ship a painting?

Yes! The cost depends on the size of the painting. I can give you a rough estimate to begin with, and once it’s completed I’ll add the exact amount onto the invoice for the second payment.

What if I don’t like my painting?

Hopefully, this won’t happen because we have already aligned on your vision. That said, I’m not perfect and sometimes things don’t go according to plan. If I deviated from or didn’t nail the design we agreed on, feel free to tell me so, and I can make adjustments. If your concerns are different than the agreed upon design, I cannot make those adjustments. If you are truly unhappy and don’t want your painting, you don’t have to pay the second half of the agreed amount, and you will not receive your painting or the initial deposit. Please note that this situation has never come up.
